2013 | Consultation, Specification, Design
Peter Wilson of Nantwich, Cheshire is one of the UK’s leading Fine Art auctioneers; the company needed a website to reflect their authoritative position within the market. The website needed to interface with legacy back-office systems so that auctions could be easily uploaded. An intuitive bidding mechanism was required, along with easy to use image viewing functionality that would showcase the detail of the items on offer.
Avid worked closely with key stakeholders to understand the business requirement. A specification was developed and a wire-frame prototype was used to help staff understand the flow and logic that was proposed.
The site is simple to use, giving customers quick access to lots that are currently being offered; it also features an extensive ‘sold lots archive’ – a listing of key lots sold by the auction house over recent years – an invaluable resource in itself. A bespoke, easy to use content management system allows staff to manage all aspects of site content, and create new web pages on specialist collecting topics.
The bidding mechanism is simple and intuitive, and the ability for staff to upload multiple, high-resolution images has helped reduce requests for scans – not only saving staff time but also providing potential bidders with the next best thing to visiting the sale room in person. Staff can easily upload auction results to the website – again cutting down on post-sale enquiries, whilst providing customers with a better service.
The inclusion of a valuation form has helped generate leads and is a great way for potential vendors to access expert knowledge without needing to make a physical trip to the auction rooms.
Since launching the new web site, staff have noticed a marked uplift in the number of valuation enquiries coming through the site, and bidders have commented on how easy the site is to use. Due to the excellent quality and structure of the content presented on the site, the website is dominating search results for target key words.
